February: Habit Month?

Someone told me once that if you do something every day for 28 days, it becomes a habit. That always sounded plausable. It occurred to me reciently that Februray usually has 28 days, so we could use Feburary to help us start a new habit. Instead of some New Year's resolution, or just trying to start doing somehting any time, we could say we'll do it every day of Feburary. That should be easy enough. If we do it every day in Feburary, maybe it will become a habit.
I'm thinking photography for my Februrary habit. I've been taking lots of pictures, but I would like to take even more. There are many inspiring photos and groups at flickr, both crafty, and just artsy. And now that I have flickr pro (thanks, Honey!) I want to put more photos up!
I am going to take a photo every day in February. I may not post them every day, but I'll label them with the day they were taken. We'll see where this experiment goes. Maybe it will become a habit.
Anybody with me?

The Contents of my High School Purse

Here's a watercolor and ink piece I did in high school. These were bright inky watercolors, and I was just experimenting, but I really liked the look of drawing over the painting. When I draw &/or paint now, I still use a similar technique.

Fan Pull: Yes it's finished!

Going back through all the older posts to put labels on, I realized that I didn't post the photos of the fan pull after it was finished. Silly me! Here it is.
Ta Da!
And the hand that's holding it is the happy recipient. She said her kitties love watching it.

Coming Soon to a Blog Near You... (this one)

Another part of my crafty new year's resolutions is about to be checked off...
I have this project that has been waiting. Waiting for after the holidays, waiting for a few other projects to be finished, waiting to have the new Blogger, so I could put catagories on my posts. Now I'm busy catagorizing my old posts, and I have no excuse to not start. It's almost time for #5. My Retro Craft Project. I will be taking some photos tonight to tease you with. And continuing to update the new Blogger blog, do you like the colors?

Work in Progress

Bear with me while I fix up the new Blogger template. I decided to try primary colors for the background as kind of a creative reminder of where we start, creatively. The body parts are secondary colors, to show the next setp in our color journey. Is that too pretentious??
Now I'm trying to add back in all the elements I had before. When Blogger said it would save a copy of the old template, I didn't copy it for myself, like I used to do, because I thought I could easily go back to it. Either I misunderstood how to do that, or I can't go back.
There are a few things I'm still not solid on, but figuring it out as I go.

Knifty Knitting up a storm!

After scouring the internet for patterns, I ended up making the first scarf just like my cousin had shown me. She said two skeins of fun fur, in the round on the blue loom. It was an easy way to go, and it was very quick. The photo was taken one week after the scarf was started, and as of today, it's all done but the tying off. I have to go look up how to do that again. ;p
One great thing I learned this week is that I can loom while we game. We're big gamers in our house, me and all my guys. And I'm talking hard core "geek games", the kind you have to go to a specialty store to find, not the old monolopy kind. And it's always been a little hard for me that I can't multitask while we game, creatively, I mean. It's too space consuming to try to bead at the table, anything else would require more concentration than I can spare (in order to kick butt in the game!). But at a recent game convention, I saw someone with some hand stitching, and it made me think to try looming. It worked great. So if you are at a game convention somewhere and you see some geek lady looming, come say 'hi'.

Shopping

I can scratch part of one resolution off the list already! (The easy one)
I purchased the round Knifty Knitter looms today and some yarn, with the money Grandma gave me for Christmas.
My cousin, LK, was visiting Grandma over the holidays with her folks, and she uses a loom, too! She uses the small round loom to make scarves, and uses fun yarn, and they are georgeous. I had already planned on buying the round looms, but she inspired me to buy some fun yarns!
Michael's had a good sale on fun yarns, I got the ad in an e-mail. Some were $2 a skein, and some were $1 a skein, regular price $4.39-5.99. So I got two of three skeins, and three of one, I'm going to try to make a hat!
All the yarns are so cool, and interesting. I'm almost imtimidated about them, some don't look like yarn at all, in the tradional sence. And me being so new to the yarn lifestyle, these yarns would have been out of my league if my cousin hadn't recommended them, and if they hadn't been on sale! So happy looming to all, and to all a good night.

And a Crafty New Year!

Here's my Crafty Resolutions
1. Get more things finished, and get them on my Etsy shop.
2. Sew a purse and accessories (including duct tape wallet)
3. Make more scarves with my loom. Get the round looms and more yarn with the Christmas money from Grandma, and make hats, too. Make scarves and hats for gifts and donations.
4. Find a Mac program that will work well with my graphics pad, "draw" and "paint" more on the computer.
5. Start my Retro Craft project.
