Fan Pull: Yes it's finished!

Going back through all the older posts to put labels on, I realized that I didn't post the photos of the fan pull after it was finished. Silly me! Here it is.
Ta Da!
And the hand that's holding it is the happy recipient. She said her kitties love watching it.

Fan Pull: Stages of Fringe

The beading on the body of the fan pull was spiraled from top to bottom. Luckily, the end of the spiral worked just fine, I was afraid it would be off-center or something. So after I decided on what style of fringe I wanted to use, I needed to decide about length. I decided that I didn't want just one little tuft of fringe, so I decided I would make two-four layers, getting shorter each time.
I started with the very last bead on the body, the very inside bead, did the longest of the fringe, and went around the spiral, until I had basically gone around one time. On the first row, it was five, which was perfect to me, as I love using odd numbers, and I love using Fibonacci numbers, so 5 is golden to me.
I kept going around the spiral, making a row of shorter (by one bugle set), until the second row went all the way around. Top photo is second row finished. At two rows around I decided I did need a third, and made it shorter (again by one bugle set), but three was enough. Bottom photo is third row almost finished.

Fan Pull: The Fringe

The next step on the fan pull was putting on the fringe. I was sooo looking forward to this part, the bugle beads that I had for the fringe are beautiful, and the fringe was going to be so much fun. First step on making the fringe, was as usual, making some test fringes to see which one(s) I liked better. I decided that different lengths would look good on this fringe, and went with a simple version.

Fan Pull: Attached and Pretty

So the solution that I came up with, was to cover the exposed thread with beads, including the bugle beads that will be part of the fringe.

Fan Pull: Attached but looks funny

Even though the ladder/basket seems to work well to hold the fan pull chain onto the body, the first few sets of ladders were very difficult to controll. As you can see here, part of the fan pull ball chain is showing on this side. Not as attractive as I had hoped. Plus, there is so much thread showing.

Current Project at Work

Like many folks, I get two 15 minute breaks at work. When I started this position just over a year ago, I decided to make a new habit, and use my breaks for arts-n-crafts. Beading works well, since it can be so portable, and easy to do a little at a time. The Marti Gras bag from the previous post, was designed and made completely from my breaks at work, I never worked on it at home. A couple other gourd (peyote) stitch projects have been started at work, but now I have switched to a bead weaving project I started many years ago. The base is a soft cloth teardrop shape, I think it's going to be a switch-pull (like for a celing fan) or a window decoration. Click the picture to see it bigger.
