Deep Dreamin'

Sorry that I sometimes just post a photo or a link without much info. I just get excited to share!
;p
Here is more info:
This is a cool, weird, artsy website that my fella found online and turned me on to. You upload your own photo (and it doesn't have to be a good one!), click a few buttons to make it into a piece of surreal art, which you can download,* publicly or privately.*
There is also a Mac program that does a bunch more stuff (he purchased his in a bundle so we don't know the exact price). I've had fun playing with the free online part!
*You do need to make a profile and log in to be able to do some things, I didn't play with it without a profile.

Here's the link: Deep Dream Generator
Here's my gallery: seeshellsdreams
Go have fun!

The Morning Sun is Shining Like a Red Rubber Ball

Well, OK, a Pink Rubber Ball.

This ball is me playing around with shading and blending colors in Corel Painter Essentials, the program that came with my Bamboo graphics pad.
Yes, I bought myself a new graphics pad, tax return money burning a hole in my artistic pocket. The old one I bought probably ten years ago, so I guess I shouldn't be too upset that it finally gave up the ghost.
I've been playing around with it for the last couple weeks. There is a lot of just practicing to get the feel down, most of which doesn't get saved. The feel of the pen on the pressure sensitive pad is unique, and takes just lots of doing to feel comfortable with. So different than seeing a line behind the pencil in your hand.
Other than playing with the graphics pad on the computer, I've been doing a lot of embroidery with felt, mostly at work. I'm putting full force into just going with the flow, embroidering as I go, not making any pattern in my head or on paper. It's good exercise to not have a plan, but when I get so far into no plan, with practicing and not saving on the graphics pad, and the embroidery being the main things I've been doing, then I get to the point of not knowing where to start with a plan or pattern.
Case in point today: I'm inspired to work on the lining for the fulled purse that I started a long time ago. I really want to start carrying it, and after some thinking through of what I do and do not want in the lining, I just want to get it done. I have everything I need at hand. The sewing machine is out on the table. And the afternoon to myself. And I have butterflies in my stomach at the prospect of HOW to make myself make a pattern. Even creating the bag itself was a make-it-as-you-go design.
So much free-flow lately. Much needed, and much appreciated. But I need to be able to free-flow as well as flow-within-the-lines, too, right? (as long as the lines are my own)

Plushie Software

You've probably already seen this if you read Boing Boing.
This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen!! It's a program to design plushies! Go watch the video even if, like me, you're a mac user and can't actually try it! But the video is sooo cool. Link
If anyone tries it, please let me know!

When I bought myself my Wiacom drawing pad, in 2002, it came with a limited edition of a great art program. I haven't been able to get a more updated version of that program, (and the old one won't run on our computers now) and that's really disappointing. None of the art programs that we have can do what it did, even though they can do a lot of other cool things. Probably a lot of folks would rather have layers, and dots to move lines, but I really miss the airbrush and chalk.

Computer Art: Flower

Here's an old piece of computer art I did a few years ago. I really like the colors and lines.

Computer Art: Tree

I purchased a Wacom graphic pad a few years back (so far back, that their website doesn't show my ruby colored one, it's already outdated). I experimented a lot with the different 'mediums' the first year I had it, and did a series of 'chalk' on 'colored paper' including this tree. I haven't done much with the pad the last year or so, I need to get the computer it's connected to ready to roll.
