Stay Tuned

Sorry I've been neglecting this little blog lately. The last almost two months now, my guy and I have been working on our new blog. The concept over there, (and sorry, I think I've mentioned this before) is that he and I each post someTHING every weekday, as a contest. For me, a lot of the 'things' I've posted are artsy/craftsy, but not all, and so I've been trying to work out how (not IF) I was going to be able to work both blogs, because I think we are really going for a different audience over there than I have here. (or had before I stopped posting for a while!)
What my plan is now, is that when my 'thing' would easily cross over, ie, artsy, craftsy, creative-y, I'll cross post, and basically just copy what I posted there, and put it here, too. If I'm not sure if my 'thing' would suit this audience, I'll leave it over there, and you can choose if you want to go over there. On the 'thing' blog, I usually just post a finished project, but here, I would like to give more information on the background of why and how I made it, maybe some hints or questions.
I am going to go back through the posts over there, and repost them here, and leave the date that I posted it there, so anyone RSS-ing, you'll get a bunch of pings this weekend, and they won't seem 'new' but they're new here.
Did any/all of that make sense?

Felted Flower

Felt Flower Close Up
I bought this awesome book and have started trying out some of the stitches. This is my first attempt at the blanket stitch, the beaded blanket stitch, and working with felt.

Notebook

Can you guess what this is?
What is it?
Well, it USED to be a list I made at work, of ideas for projects and things I want to do, but I left it in my pocket, and it went through the wash. Perhaps some of the ideas were washed away.
What else it is is the inspiration to make this:
Notepad
I took a notebook that I had purchased at a dollar store, and collaged on the back, so it was now the new front. That way, both front and back still look cool.
Front and Back
I used some old Entertainment Weekly magazines for the pictures. The kitchy shelves of things were from a photo with Amy Sedaris, so I thought it only fitting to add the googly eye. Click on any of the pictures to go to flickr, where there are a couple other shots that are close ups.

New Jewelry

Necklace and Earrings
Here's a necklace and earring set I made over the last couple weeks on my break at work. Grape colored rice beads, mother of pearl rice beads, and silver stars.

For My New Car: More Info

Car Freshener in Shadow
I had the idea to make something to hang from my new car's rear view mirror. I've hung different things in different cars, and I always want to have something that is unique and represents me and my life. Some of the things I've hung from my rear view mirrors over the years have been hand made, and I thought at this time in my life I really wanted something handmade, kitchy, and fun. I started out thinking of beads, because I still define my craftiness first in beads. But I really wanted to do something fairly quick, and I really wanted to step more into the new craft world, more re-fitting, more 'extreme', more not-your-gramma's-craft project. So the idea of beading on a traditional car freshoner came to mind. At first, I wanted to put beads on both sides, since either side could be seen, but I didn't have a good plan to make that work. I found the "Little Trees" come in 3 packs, so I can experiment more. The cardboard of the tree is too thick to just poke a needle through, so I used a hammer and nail to pound little holes randomly all over the tree. Putting one bead on every hole left a mess of string on the back, which I covered with tissue paper, and cut up bits of holographic ribbon. Here's the back:

Cross Post:
Here's a 'mod' kind of craft I made for my car. I took a regular tree air freshener, and beaded decorations on it.
